Curriculum
A.P.E. understands that not all young people can cope with formal education or the more traditional learning styles offered in mainstream education. The staff here all have unique skills to bring out the best in the young people they work with. The 'hands on' approach of working with a range of exotic and domesticated animals in the calm and positive environment created at A.P.E. facilitates a wide range of learning and personal development to take place to enhance the holistic needs of the young people we work with:
- Life Skills. A.P.E. creates a harmonious environment to enable young people to develop positive life skills that will help raise self esteem, develop respect and give them the confidence and ability to develop and appreciate their own needs and the needs of others.
- Communication Skills. With raised self esteem, young people will develop the skills to successfully communicate with those around them.
- Greater Appreciation of the Environment. Through working with animals and discovering the wonders of nature, students will become more caring and sensitive to their natural surroundings.
A.P.E. is currently developing its portfolio to eventually include formal qualifications for those learners who will require qualifications to enhance their personal development.
A.P.E. also actively encourages and supports learners during their progression routes from Secondary to Further Education.
A.P.E. regularly liaises with schools on the progress of learners and are more than happy to act as a mediator between the young people and their teachers to help address any issues they may have.
A.P.E. also provides schools with written reports on the young people on a regular basis to assist with their successful integration back into mainstream education.
Teachers and parents are more than welcome to attend the center to meet with staff and young people, but please note, this must be done through prior arrangement.
